About Blooma's Prenatal Yoga Training

Picture
Blooma's Prenatal Yoga Teacher Trainings are all about finding the goddess within. Upon completion of Level 1, you’ll be prepared and encouraged to lead a beautiful prenatal yoga practice that builds a mother’s confidence, strength, connects her to baby, and uplifts her mind, body, and spirit.

You will be trained in a sequence that is specifically designed to empower and prepare women for birth. Blooma feels confident that graduates from Level 1 can begin their journey into prenatal yoga teaching in a safe and inspiring way.

Blooma's Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training is a journey.

Picture
It's more than just another yoga training. Sarah and Stacy lead each session with the intention that each individual will have her own experience and find her own voice.

Drawing from a rich history of birthing wisdom, the Level 1 training includes: the birthing community, inner wisdom, prenatal body knowledge, anatomy, wellness, introduction to childbirth education philosophies, the energy system of the chakras, and, of course the depth of the ancient practice of yoga.

During Blooma’s training you’ll learn far more than modifications for pregnancy.

Picture
You’ll learn about the emotional and physical challenges a woman undergoes during labor and childbirth—and how her prenatal yoga classes help prepare her for that journey. You’ll also explore your own beliefs surrounding birth, taking time to journal and share with others in your training. We’ll practice together, take turns teaching, and developing confidence as teachers.

Drawing from her core belief in the inner strength of women, and the power of the breath, Sarah shares stories and wisdom from both her years of teaching prenatal yoga and from the hundreds of births she has attended as a doula. Stacy shares her knowledge of yoga, meditation, and physical and energetic mindful listening exercises, and how to incorporate these practices into your classes.

Blooma is a Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS) with Yoga Alliance. Blooma is unique in that there are very few locations around the world that offer Yoga Alliance approved prenatal yoga education. Those interested in completing both Level 1 & Level 2 in order to receive the Yoga Alliance designation of "Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher" (RPYT) can attend Level 2 training at Blooma in Minneapolis, or at any other locations Blooma travels to.

Blooma's Cancellation Policy for the Toronto Training:

Welcome Robin Elizabeth Connolly - Yoga Instructor

We are happy to welcome Yoga Instructor Robin Elizabeth Connolly to our team!

Robin Elizabeth leads our Tots Yoga and Family Yoga classes every Saturday.

Robin Elizabeth grew up in Chelsea Quebec, as a competitive horsebck rider. She was drawn towards a serious yoga practice in 2008, while pursuing her BA in African Studies in Toronto. Robin realized that both yoga and equestrian sport deeply explore the concept of 'union', and Robin's constant curiosity about this broad subject is manifest in her classes. Her aim is to invite students back to their own natural rhythms, bringing attention to breath, blending specific alignment cues with opportunities for free, artistic movement.

Robin is inspired by her travels to Kenya, Nepal, and the Indian Himalayas (where she taught kids' yoga at 4200m altitude!), and by the lessons of everyday life. Robin is passionate about the way yoga can create opportunities for joyful connection between children and their caregivers, and loves teaching the tots and family classes on Saturdays! Robin is grateful for the guidance of her teachers, past and present. Among many are Nicky Poole, Simon Park, Scott Petrie, Matthew Remski, Jesse Enright, Marla Joy, Natasha Currah, Aadil Palkhivala, S.N. Goenka, Josh Cohen, and Thom Knoles. Robin looks forward to seeing you in her class soon!

10 Benefits of Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga

How yoga leads to a healthy pregnancy and recovery

Written by Jamie Kalynuik

1. Increases your energy
Practicing yoga gets the blood flowing. Like all exercise, doing yoga regularly provides us with an energy boost short term and long-term.  It energizes and revitalizes both our bodies and spirits.

2. Helps you sleep better
Yoga helps you sleep better by relaxing both your mind and body. A regular yoga practice helps people fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer and improved the overall quality of their rest.

3. Reduces stress
The focus on breathing, the calm atmosphere of the studio, and the stretching and relaxation can really help clear your mind and relax your body. Yoga is about being in the present moment. The hustle of your life is put on hold while you practice. That break from the bustle can help with anxiety about health, birth, or anything else there is to do or worry about.

4. Relieves aches and pains
Yoga is an amazing way to stretch and loosen up tight muscles. It reduces joint pain, muscle stiffness, and overall physical discomfort while greatly improving your flexibility, range of motion, and muscle strength. Yoga is a great way to reduce lower back pain and it can also decrease nausea, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches and shortness of breath.

5. Teaches you to breathe
A yoga class is the perfect place to practice breath awareness and rhythm. Breath control is an invaluable asset for pain management in labor and birth. It is also the perfect stress-relieving tool in everyday situations.

6. Prepares your body for childbirth
Practicing yoga improves flexibility, range of motion and strength - all which are important in labour and delivery. Yoga can help bring flexibility and comfort into the hips, range of motion into all of your joints, and strength into your entire body.

7. Builds strength
Yoga is an entire full body workout and makes you strong all over.  Specific poses are incorporated into the practice to strengthen your legs (to help carry the extra pregnancy weight) and strengthen your arms (for carrying baby around afterwards).

8. Bonds you with baby
Yoga gives expectant moms a chance to connect with the experience of being pregnant and bond with their babies. It’s easy to lose that connection as you rush through the day - prenatal yoga creates the space in your life to truly relax and connect, forming a loving bond even before birth.

9. Encourages confidence
Pregnancy is filled with so many physical changes and new feelings. Sometimes these changes can create feelings of unease with your body (why can't I remember things anymore? Why is this part of my body feeling this way??) Realizing the true power of your own body in a room full of other powerful and beautiful pregnant women can be great positive reinforcement.  A regular yoga practice will give you a clear mind and the inspiration and courage to be constantly expanding and improving your life.

10. Makes you happy :)
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...that relaxing yet rejuvenating feeling you experience as your roll up your mat and head back out into world after finishing a great yoga class. Yoga gets the blood flowing and warms up the body, and the deep belly breathing practiced in yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system to produce a calming, relaxing and happy effect. Overall, yoga is an amazing and easy way to enhance your mood, your confidence and overall sense of well-being.
